A Letter From the Director: Private Travel, Personally Led
Dear Traveller,
Sixteen years ago, I began my career in an industry built on a simple promise: that a journey,
done well, can change the way a person sees the world. I have spent every year since chasing
that promise — across destination management, luxury travel operations, sales, and both
traditional and online travel businesses. I have sat on both sides of the table: building itineraries
in boardrooms, and standing on the ground in Sri Lanka, walking the properties and roads our
guests will eventually walk themselves.
That dual perspective is why I care, quite personally, about the difference between a trip and an
experience. And it is why we built two distinct companies, working in concert, to deliver exactly
that.
Two Companies, One Standard
The Serendipity Experiences (TSE) is our luxury tour operation — the architects behind every
journey. We do not sell packages. We design private, personally led experiences: a sunrise
safari timed to the exact moment the light turns gold over Yala’s grasslands, a tea-country
transfer that becomes a story in itself, a cultural encounter arranged not for spectacle but for
authenticity. Every itinerary we build starts with a single question — what will make this traveller
feel like they discovered Sri Lanka, rather than simply visited it? Our guides, our private
transport, our access to places most operators cannot reach — all of it exists to answer that
question.
The Serendipity Collection (TSC) is where our guests rest. It is our curated portfolio of luxury
and boutique properties across the island — handpicked, not aggregated. Every property in the
Collection is chosen because it meets a standard of service, character, and quality that we
would be proud to stand behind ourselves. This is not a directory of hotels. It is a collection, in
the truest sense — properties that share a philosophy of understated luxury, genuine hospitality,
and a sense of place that a generic five-star chain simply cannot replicate.
Together, TSE and TSC form something rare in Sri Lankan travel: a single, accountable thread
from the moment a guest lands to the moment they reluctantly leave. No handoffs. No gaps in
service. No difference in standard between the journey and the stay.
What “Personally Led” Actually Means
I built my career on relationships — with hoteliers, with guides, with drivers, with the small,
extraordinary people who make Sri Lanka what it is. Those relationships are the real
infrastructure behind every TSE journey and every TSC property. When a guest arrives, they
are not entering a transaction with a company. They are entering a network I have spent sixteen
years building, one introduction at a time.
This is what “personally led” means to us. It means an itinerary is built around you, not a
template. It means a property in the Collection was chosen because I have stood in that lobby
and felt the difference. It means that if something needs adjusting mid-journey — the weather
turns, an interest shifts, a guest simply wants more time somewhere — there is a real person on
the other end who can make that happen, quickly and quietly.
An Island That Rewards This Kind of Attention
Sri Lanka is, I believe, one of the last great destinations where this level of personal curation still
matters enormously. It is a compact island holding an extraordinary range of experience —
ancient cities, rainforest and hill country, wildlife, coastline, cuisine, craft — and the difference
between an ordinary trip and an unforgettable one almost always comes down to who is holding
the itinerary together. Anyone can book a hotel here. Far fewer can show a guest why this
island has captivated travellers for generations.
That is the gap TSE and TSC exist to close.
An Invitation, Personally
If you are considering Sri Lanka — whether for a private family journey, a milestone celebration,
or simply the trip you have been promising yourself — I would welcome the chance to build it
with you. Not a package pulled from a shelf, but a journey shaped around who you are and what
you are looking for, stayed in properties I would happily recommend to my own family.
This is private travel, personally led. It is the only kind I know how to offer.
Warm regards,
