Sri Lanka · Private Luxury Tour
About
This Journey
From the ancient rock fortress of Sigiriya to the Indian Ocean shores of Weligama — Sri Lanka, experienced without compromise.
Carefully curated for the discerning traveller, this 13-day private journey has been designed to reveal the island's many layers through a balance of immersive cultural experiences, scenic journeys, wildlife encounters, and moments of absolute stillness.
Ancient kingdoms rise above jungle canopies. Mist-covered tea hills roll endlessly into the horizon. Leopards move through golden light in Yala. Colonial ramparts face the ocean at dusk in Galle. Each region of Sri Lanka is distinct — and this itinerary gives you the space to truly inhabit each one.
Meet your private chauffeur-guide on arrival and transfer to your first retreat just outside Colombo. The evening is yours — rest, decompress, and let Sri Lanka find you.
Drive north through rural villages and coconut plantations into Sri Lanka's ancient Cultural Triangle. Late afternoon: the Dambulla Cave Temple — a UNESCO World Heritage Site of luminous Buddhist murals carved into living rock, above sweeping jungle views.
Depart before dawn to climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress as the sun breaks over the canopy. A specialist guide unlocks the ancient royal citadel — its frescoes, water gardens, mirror wall, and lion paws carved from stone. Afternoon: cycling through paddy fields, a cooking demonstration, and a home-style lunch with a local family.
Travel south through the hill country to Kandy. Scenic drive around the lake and surrounding hills before the day's centrepiece — an evening guided visit to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, where the island's most revered Buddhist relic has been enshrined for over 1,600 years.
Ascend from Kandy through waterfalls and winding mountain roads. The landscape shifts — hedgerow to tea estate, warm air to cool mist. Your bungalow at Ceylon Tea Trails sits above it all.
A morning walk along a section of Sri Lanka's legendary Pekoe Trail — through rolling tea plantations and quiet estate villages, the history of Ceylon tea traced underfoot. Afternoon entirely your own.
Leave the cool highlands and head south through changing landscapes toward Yala. Check into your luxury tented lodge in the wilderness. An evening game drive as the last light fades over the southern plains.
Dawn safari into Yala National Park — home to one of the highest densities of leopards on earth. Elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, and hundreds of species of bird. The light is extraordinary. The silences, too.
The southern coast unfolds as you leave Yala. Two full days at Cape Weligama — a clifftop property with the Indian Ocean spreading to every horizon. Rest, swim, watch the fishermen on their stilts. Optional excursions on request, or simply nothing at all.
Late afternoon arrival in Galle Fort — UNESCO-listed, Dutch-colonial, utterly charming. A guided walk through cobbled lanes and ancient ramparts as the sun drops into the ocean behind you. Stay the night inside the fort walls at one of Asia's most distinguished hotels.
Morning: a private guided walk through Lunuganga, Geoffrey Bawa's legendary country estate. Afternoon: into Colombo's Fort and Pettah quarters — colonial buildings, hidden alleys, trading history, street life. The evening ends at Ministry of Crab, one of Asia's finest restaurants.
